Her father was a WW ll Navy veteran who worked in communications. He was a family man who liked outdoor activities such as fishing and going to ball games. While her mother was a small businesswoman and a cellist who played in community orchestras, she also was a painter and writer, whose works were often displayed in public libraries and senior centers.Eve believes in the value of education having attended public schools before obtaining her college degree, masters degree, and law degree. She studied at Oxford, England for her junior year in college. Eve would go on to become a business law professor. Eve taught business law to adult students at Montreat College for 20 years. Currently she is in her 16th year teaching business and hospitality law at Johnson Wales University. In addition, she taught paralegal courses at Central Carolina Technical College, and tutored cadets at the Camden Military Academy.Eve is no stranger to public service and working in government. Eve worked on the campaign of former United States Congressman Thomas J. Downey, her first cousin. She was a staff aid for former Governor Mario Cuomo of New York in her early days.Eve has lived in South Carolina since 1999, where she calls Kershaw County her home. Eve is committed to community service and volunteers with a number of groups, such as the Kershaw County Democratic Party, the Kershaw County Democratic Women, the Camden Junior Welfare League, the Arts Center of Kershaw County and an active member in the Kershaw County NAACP. In fact, in 2025 she was one of three woman honored by the KC NAACP for excellent leadership and community service in Kershaw County.Eve was married to Dave L’Heureux, who sadly died at the age of 49 due to complications from a brain tumor. Eve is a survivor, and has much compassion and energy. She believes that together we can move South Carolina forward.

Most students in our state and across the country are in public schools. We need to support teachers, students and staff in our public schools and give them respect. Teachers are professionals who warrant professional salaries.How Eve will take action as a legislator: <ul><li>Eve will propose legislation to stop the voucher program in South Carolina.</li><li>Eve will work to have a SRO (School Resource Officer) in every public school in South Carolina.</li><li>Eve will propose that we have health and wellness curriculum for every level of school in our public school system.</li><li>Eve will propose that there will be a social worker in every public school in South Carolina.</li><li>Eve will propose that the state budget include monies for every public school district to have free breakfast and lunch for every child attending our public schools. </li><li>Eve will propose that there be a zero tolerance policy for bullying in all public schools.</li><li>Eve will set up an educational advisory committee in her district. This committee will be comprised of educators, staff, students and parents to discuss educational issues.</li><li>Eve is opposed to the current bill that would require every public school to post the 10 Commandments in every classroom. She believes there is a separation of church and state in our country.</li></ul>

Eve believes the state needs to move from having an interest in public education to having a commitment to public education. This involves more teacher respect, better salaries, smaller class sizes, and&nbsp; less state testing. Let teachers teach.

Education and Public Schools

We know that so much of our economy is with small businesses. Eve will do whatever she can to support the creation of small businesses in the state and have them be sustainable.How Eve will take action as a legislator: <ul><li>Eve will work to help create more business incubators in our state. This will help budding entrepreneurs in our state. Statistics show that most start up businesses are women over 40 years of age. Let's do all we can to help these businesses suceed.</li></ul>

Eve supports businesses, especially our small businesses. She will do all she can to help out small businesses be sustainable and grow in our communities.

Eve's father was a World War II Navy veteran. She values military service and all veterans have done for our country. Eve is a strong supporter of our military and what they do for our state and country. Finally, Eve respects and supports our law enforcement and first responders. She is grateful for all their service in our communities.

Veterans have given so much to our country and we need to care and protect them. We also need to support first responders &amp; law enforcement because of all they do to keep us safe.

Eve believes that women can make their own decisions about their healthcare and reproductive decisions. Recent bills proposed in our South Carolina State Legislature are way too restrictive on women's rights and are hurtful control over women. In addition, our state needs to have medicaid expanded to enable more healthcare especially for women and children.How Eve will take action as a legislator: <ul><li>Eve will propose a bill that will be a much more relaxed timeframe in which women can legally get an abortion in South Carolina. Our current six-week abortion ban is WAY too restrictive and not what most people want in South Carolina.</li></ul><h3></h3>

Eve believes women can make their own medical decisions. The government should not be making them for women&nbsp; Eve supports abortion rights.

Our state needs an hates crimes law, it is way over due. Even after the horrific shootings in the Mother Emanuel Church, our state legislature did not pass a hate crimes bill. Ten years later, we still do not have one. This is criminal!How Eve will take action as a legislator:<ul><li>Eve initiated petitions in Kershaw County for residents to sign to get a Kershaw County Hate Crime Ordinance for the County. These petitions will be presented to the Kershaw County Council within the next few months. We need to continue to fight on the state level for a STATE hate crimes law. Until then, more and more municipalities in South Carolina are passing local hate crimes ordinances. Eve is fighting for one in Kershaw County. </li></ul>

South Carolina needs to adopt a state hate crime law now.&nbsp; It is only one of two states that does not have one.&nbsp;

Hate Crimes Law

We need to raise the economic situation of South Carolina and address the affordability issue. South Carolina is one of the poorest states in the country. There are ways in which we can change that from increasing good job opportunities to higher pay for employees in our state. It is critical for our state to adopt a state minimum wage law. Hourly wages can then be incremently raised which will help our hourly employees. They are over two thirds of workers in our state!How Eve will take action as a legislator: <ul><li>Eve will propose a state minimum hourly wage law for our state. It must be an amount that is a livable wage. This will help to lift the economic wages of employees in our state.</li></ul>

Eve believes in jobs and fair wages. She advocates for South Carolina to adopt a state minimum wage law that can raise employee hourly rates in the state. This will help to uplift citizens economic footing in South Carolina. South Carolina is one of only a few states that does not have a state minimum wage law on the books. This needs to change.&nbsp;

Economic Opportunities &amp; Fair Wages

I believe in better infrastructure in South Carolina. For too long our roads and bridges have been some of the worst in the United States. We need to do better. I'll fight for better road and bridges. In addition, we need to protect our environment and our water resources. I will fight for the conservation of our environment and against things like data centers coming in to our communities.How Eve will take action as a legislator:<ul><li>Eve will fight against data centers coming in to South Carolina, no matter whatever parameters are being proposed for these data centers.</li></ul>

Are you happy with the condition of the roads and bridges in South Carolina? I'm not. Do you tnink we are doing enough to protect our environment. I don't.
